Think you can’t put together an exceptional plant-based burger at home? Think again.
Alex Tan, the founder and CEO of VeganBurg, shares the Summer Salsa Burger – an easy recipe that we can whip up for our family in less than half an hour with store-bought items. In fact, we may even already have them in our pantry or fridge.
We bet you have tomatoes (Photo by Vince Lee)
Why do we like it? First, it’s filling and tasty. We can serve it for lunch, snacks and dinner. We can wrap it up and take it with us to a picnic or for work. And it’s something quick that we can feed our guests (especially when we’ve run out of ideas at the moment). In other words, it’s reliable – you can’t go wrong with it.
And since it’s a burger, we can pair it with fries (potato, sweet potato or other veggies, take your pick) and other side dishes to have a complete meal.
Don’t forget to add in your favourite juices too
Lastly, it has mango in it, which gives it a sweet and refreshing twist.
Do you need any more convincing? No? Then let’s begin.
Summer Salsa Burger
Prep and cook time: 20 minutes
4 ready-made vegan patties (you can buy these from the supermarket)
2 ripe mangoes, peeled and cut into cubes
4 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp maple syrup
2 cups romaine lettuce
4 buns, cut in half
4 slices of tomatoes
1. Deep-fry the patties for 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown. Set aside.
2. Place the mangoes in a small pot and add 2 cups of water. Leave to boil for 1 minute.
3. Add the sugar and maple syrup to the pot and stir constantly until it thickens.
4. Place a handful of lettuce and a patty on the bottom half of a bun. Top it off with 1 slice of tomato, 1 tbsp of the mango sauce, and the other bun half.
Tip: If you’d like to customise your burger according to your tastes, and include other veggies and plant-based ingredients to it, feel free. For ideas, Souley Green has a lot of sauces, seasonings and pastes for you to choose from.
